Dearest Mom,

Your letter which I received last night I enjoyed veryt much, but I have not yet received the box containing cookies which I know will melt in my mouth.  No doubt the box will come in tomorrow's noon mail call, and you can imagine that I am looking forward greedily to that time.

Again it looks as if we might come out of quarantine tomorrow; and if we do, there is a good chance that we shall be out of this place by next Sunday.  If we haven't left by the first of April, we shall probably be here until May 1.  God forbid it.

Mom, I don't like this idea of you and Charlie having to put out that paper by yourselves, not at all.  You know that such an arrangement can't go on forevery.  In the first place you musn't work so hard as you do.  It isn't worth the money nor the health which you are undoubtedly breaking. I wrote Janey and Melvin this morning; thanks for the information concerning each. As to a subscription to the Reader's Digest, I certainly would like it but as you said, I think it advisable to wait until I am located permanently in school.

The order which you read in the paper does apply to me, and I hpe that is the right dope.  Those stripes and that pay hike would suite me quite well.  We had heard nothing about it until your mention of it.  If you happen to find the paper, I would like the clipping concerning the order.

Don't misunderstand me, Mom; I didn't mean to complain because there were a couple of days when I failed to receive a letter from you.  I realize that you are a busy little lady and don't have time to write every day.  Think nothing more about it, and thanks for writing such nice sweet letters as often as you do.

Mom, I don't want you to worry about me, for I am big enough to take care of myself, smart enough to stay away from the cards and dice, and proud enough to retain the steandards of living which I had in civilian life.  I hope that I don't disappoint you as I become a man and a soldier and slip from the ways of a boy and a civilian.

I'll write again tomorrow.

Lots of love and kisses for a sweet mom and love for my little brother from

Your son

Ben
